COASTAL HOME RENOVATION
Omaha Retreat
Luxury interior design in collaboration with Sumich Chaplin Architects and House of Hanna
Location: Omaha Beach, New Zealand
Property Type: Coastal Holiday Home
Scope: Custom Bathroom Design, Bespoke Cabinetry, Custom Furniture
Positioned along the pristine Omaha Beach coastline, this second home was envisioned as a refined holiday residence, harmonising relaxed beachside living with understated luxury. The brief centred on creating private guest suites, each conceived as a personal retreat for family and visiting friends.
The update introduced five bathrooms, including a dedicated steam room, which became defining features of the renovation. Creamy travertine stone was sourced in multiple textured finishes, its softened edges reinforcing the project’s sense of calm continuity.
A central narrative guided the design: water sculpting form over time. Travertine, reminiscent of handmade soap, inspired surfaces and transitions that appear smoothed and shaped by water’s touch.
In the bedrooms, custom furniture and hand-applied waxed clay plaster walls bring depth, softness, and artisanal tactility. The primary suite flows from dual dressing areas into a tranquil bathroom, where sculptural stonework and concealed wet zones balance elegance with privacy. Guest suites feature double-entry ensuite bathrooms, evoking the quiet comfort of a boutique resort.
Throughout the home, bespoke cabinetry, curated finishes, and hand-blown glass lighting create a calm, crafted atmosphere. Every element was shaped to express refinement, warmth, and continuity. This project is a true reflection of coastal luxury living.
This project was awarded Bathroom of the Year 2025 by HOME Magazine, recognising its refined detailing, layered materiality, and enduring sophistication.
